"ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE" AT GREEN HOPE HIGH
Green Hope High School presents William Shakespeare's As You Like It
CARY, NC -- The Green Hope High School Theater Department presents one of Shakespeare's most ingenious comic inventions, As You Like It, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, November 4-6 at 7:30 p.m. each night. Green Hope High is located at 2500 Carpenter Upchurch Road in Cary.
Tickets are $8 per person and available at the door one hour before curtain each night. Tickets for students presenting their school or college I.D.'s are $5. Employees of the Wake Country Public School System are granted complimentary tickets.
One of William Shakespeare's early plays, and in contrast to his great tragedies, As You Like Itfeatures some of his most beloved characters and, most notably, his largest female role and feistiest heroine, Rosalind, played by Green Hope High School (GHHS) senior Sonya Rikhye, seen as Hovstad in last year's production of An Enemy of the People. Playing Orlando to Rikhye's Rosalind is GHHS junior Nick Dye.
Under the direction of Jenny Buelin, Theater Arts Director of GHHS, the 26-member cast has invested more than 75 hours of rehearsal time in the production. Their set was built by the GHHS technical theater classes and their costumes designed by GHHS alumni student Brant Miller.
In a unique twist on the Shakespearean classic, the GHHS presentation places its characters in a contemporary Hawaiian setting. Continuing their contemporary approach to the play, and in keeping with their unique casting challenges, rival duchesses, rival brothers, lovesick Kona coffee farmers, and multiple adventures in the forest are just a few of the play's featured plots where fools philosophize, love triumphs, and the good guys (and gals) reign victorious.
Highlighted by many well-known Shakespearean lines and featuring one of the best-loved speeches in all of Shakespeare's work, "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players...," this As You Like It production offers the students of GHHS the opportunity to rule the world of theater with their dedicated and enthusiastic performances.
