GREEN HOPE HIGH SCHOOL COMES A-WASSAILING
2nd Bi-Annual Madrigal Dinner Transports Lords and Ladies to "Merrie Olde England"
CARY, NC -- The Green Hope High School Annex will undergo an elaborate time-warp transformation from high school annex cafeteria to yuletide Elizabethan period banquet hall on Friday and Saturday, November 19 and 20. The Green Hope High School (GHHS) Choral Department and Theater I Class will host their 2nd bi-annual Madrigal feast at 6:00 p.m. each evening.
The GHHS 9th grade annex is located at 2100 Morrisville Parkway in Cary, less than one mile from the main Green Hope High campus.
Banquet tickets, which have sold out quickly in the past, are by reservation only and are $20 per person. GHHS students and faculty may purchase tickets at $15 per person. Ticket orders can be taken by any participating fine art student or through the GHHS Fine Arts Booster Club website at www.greenhopefinearts.com or by calling 919.463.0499.
Under the direction of Maggie Walpole, GHHS Choral and Theater I Director, the 9th-12th grade choral and drama students present an enchanting evening of Elizabethan vocal and instrumental music, a humorous period play, and the revelry of Renaissance practice displayed from 1400-1500. The combined 100+ member cast of GHHS student performers, all arrayed in 16th century attire, will transport audiences back to Renaissance England -- a time when guests traveled great distances to the castles of wealthy friends and family members during the holiday season to feast, dance, and exchange news in a celebration that lasted several days.
As in the time of Shakespeare, GHHS guests will gather at the royal court where King Harrison Dearth, a GHHS senior, and Queen Samantha Corey, a GHHS junior, invite all to celebrate the bounty of a four-course yuletide banquet, beginning with the traditional procession of the boar's head. Processional fanfare accompanies each course of the Madrigal feast.
"Without a doubt, Madrigal dinners require an incredible amount of hard work and planning as music and drama students, GHHS staff and parent volunteers all work together to present an extraordinary evening of unique entertainment and dining," explains director Walpole.
At the close of the two-night run, 500 hundred guests will have joined GHHS for a magical trip back in time to Renaissance England and the pomp and circumstance of the Madrigal feasts of old.
